Recently, I discovered that I am having our second baby. Few days ago, I was lying in bed with half body slightly elevated trying to get rid the burning sensation between my chest and stomach and sometimes goes up to my throat. I was suffering from heartburn and that was too early for this pregnancy. I presumably overate that’s why I am feeling that burning sensation.
Heartburn occurs during early and late pregnancy due to a reflux of food and acid from your stomach to your throat which is caused by the softening of the ligaments that keeps the lower esophageal sphincter tightly closed. This is a common discomfort problem while pregnant and perhaps it is inevitable.
Though you may not be able to completely get rid of it, there are few ways to prevent heartburn during pregnancy.
- Though you may have cravings at this time, remember to eat light. Do not over ate, instead try to have small meals.
- Take it slow, don’t rush your meal. Enjoy your food and chew it thoroughly.
- Water is important to pregnant women and it is best if you can drink 8 to 10 glasses a day. But don’t drink huge amount during meal time as this causes your lower esophageal sphincter to open. Drink large amount of water in between meals.
- Don’t go to bed immediately after eating. Allow atleast 2-3 hours before you go to sleep.
- Sleep with your head and shoulder or half of your body slightly elevated. This will help your stomach acids to stay in place where they should be.
- Avoid coffee, tea and soda as these drinks contain caffeine.
- Avoid wearing tight clothes.
- When sitting down, avoid slouching.
- Avoid smoking as this may trigger and increase heartburn.
- Avoid food that triggers heartburn such as citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, chocolates, mustard, vinegar, spicy, fried, and fatty foods.
If these tips can’t help you, talk to your care provider for a possible safe over the counter remedy.
We have not planned this, that’s why I was not happy when I found out that we are having our second baby. I am not yet ready emotionally and perhaps we are not yet ready financially plus our eldest is only 10 months old. Despite the worries I had laid to my husband, he was happy about the news and he was determine that together we can face the new responsibility and that there is nothing to get worried about. But it took me a few days to finally embrace the good news and thank God for this new blessing! Encouragement from good friends and family helped me a lot to have the courage I have right now. I released my worries, and entrusted it to HIM for He has better plans for me, than I have.
And so realised that I shouldn’t be sad about this, instead, I should be thankful. I know it’s a big responsibility to be a mom for the second time plus the adjustment that I need to make since I’ll be going through this second pregnancy without my husband; my eldest and I will be going home for good while hubby will continue working in KL. It’s really sad, but that is the real scenario and will be happening very soon. It made me weak, which made me run to “HIM” for comfort. What consoled me is HIS assurance that he will not give us something that I and my husband could not bear.
During those down moment, hubby encouraged me to blog about this but I just don’t have the guts to write. Thankfully, here I am, smiling while writing and ready to have that “Bump” again in a few months. Our little one will be a big brother soon. I just hope and pray that this second pregnancy will not be difficult, just like my first pregnancy. We hope and claim that it will be a bouncing baby girl!
Insect bites are a common dilemma for first time moms like me. Mosquitoes, ants, and ticks may cause slight swelling and itching. It’s sad that our little one reacts badly to insect bites. He gets severe swelling on the infected area. The swelling last for three up to five days depends on the severity of swelling. I was able to ask his paediatrician a prescription for insect bites, and good thing it is effective.
Apart from the prescription, I always carry insects repellent when we go outside the house and even spray repellent while inside the house. That’s my way of getting rid those bites. There are more ways on getting rid those insect bites.
Bug proofing your baby
- Avoid insects places den like, flower garden, stagnant water and open garbage bin.
- When going out say to the park, dressed you baby with light clothing that covers almost all the skin and wear sock or shoes.
- Use mosquito net on your baby stroller or play pen.
- Use mild and safe bug repellent.
- Avoid using scented soap and lotion.
When to Worry
Slight swelling and itching are normal reactions to insect bites. But there are things you need to watch out that might be an indication of a severe allergic reaction.
- Vomiting as this can lead to dehydration and breathing problem.
- Increase of heartbeat.
- Rashes on other part of his body apart from the infected ones.
- Swelling on the lips.
If your baby encounters the above mentioned symptoms, don’t panic and try to keep your baby calm and bring him immediately to the hospital for medication.
Once infected area heals, next thing to do is to get rid of the scars. I’m sure most moms want a flaw less skin for their child. There are varieties of scar remover in the market, but for babies, it is better to consult your paediatrician for mild and safe scar removers.
I have been planning to take our family portrait the past week and so, I told hubby last week to prepare for a shoot for the coming weekend since we are not busy that Saturday. I had to feed the little one before the shoot to make sure that he will be in good mood.
And just after taking a fresh bath, we prepared for the shoot which we did in our living area with the help of my sturdy tripod and of course my reliable nikie and its kit lens and not to mention the self timer option of my camera that nailed the shots.
Thank goodness we were able to take great shots and the little one enjoyed it even though he seems snub in some of the pictures. While reviewing the photos, I noticed that our sofa is kinda grimy which is distracting. I take a look, and yes it’s really grimy and then I realized that it has been a long time that we didn’t clean it and perhaps the grimy look is due to its old age. Look like our living area needs new sofas. Is it really time to replace our filthy sala set?
When to Replace your Sofa
1. When it is no longer comfortable to lie on your sofa.
2. When the top edge dips in the center.
3. When the foam is no longer dense due to old age.
4. When it no longer provides cushion.
5. Or simply when it is damage.
If your sofa encountered the above mentioned condition, it’s probably time to replace it. As for our sofa, aside from being grimy, the foam is no longer dense and the topper dips in the center. I think it’s about time to replace it.
When buying a new sofa, it is important to consider the following:
- Shape, color and size should be the major consideration. Shape and color are important elements on the overall look of your living room, while size should fit on your entire living room space.
- Type of sofa. Determine the type of sofa according to the size of your space.
- Comfort. Some sofa may look good in terms of appearance, but you have to remember that a good sofa offers comfort.
- Fabric. Fabrics add aesthetics to sofa. You should consider fabric’s durability when choosing a sofa.
- Quality. In almost all things, quality is important. Sofa quality is determined by the method of construction used as well as the material used.
I hope to get the best quality sofa within in our budget.
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14
Forgiving is allowing another person to be human for faults, mistakes, or misdeeds. It is letting another know that there is no grudge, hard feelings, or animosity for any wrongdoing. Forgiving is the God like gift of spiritually connecting with others, touching their hearts to calm the fear of rejection, quiet the sense of failure, and lighten the burden of guilt. Forgetting is the God like gift of spiritually touching others’ hearts with the reassurance of a happy and full life with no fear of recrimination, remonstrations, or reminding of past offenses. Forgetting is putting these behind you; they are no longer brought up and no longer remain a barrier to your relationship.
In order to forgive and forget, you need to let go of past hurt and pain, Trust in the goodness of mankind and the goodness and mercy of God to take over for you. Let go and let God lead you during a hurtful time and Believe in God’s infinite justice and wisdom.
There is nothing so bad that cannot be forgiven. Nothing! So Live a peaceful and joyful life, Forgive and you will be forgiven.
I never dare to watched the video of a toddler circulating on a social network, being run over by two vehicle and was ignore by 18 passers by. I can’t imagine the scene; I know I don’t have the guts to watch it. But later that day, I was still able to watch it over the local news. How painful was it, especially for a mother, seeing those little kid being run over by a vehicle twice, and yet nobody dare to help her. I never knew that was possible in other countries. I grow up in a third world country, where poverty, crime and corruption exist and a failing economy, but hey, people know how to help other person who obviously needs help.
Little YueYue didn’t make it, due to critical head injury and organ failure. I can’t help but shout for “Justice” for the little one and condemned the drivers of the two vehicles including those passers by and thank that garbage collector who moved the little girl to the side of the street. If only you came early, the little one might have been saved.
This incident sparked a question on Chinese morality. May this incident remind the Chinese people about their moral development. Let “Justice” be serve to the Yue Yue!
Education is the best thing I can give to my children. To some it has been quoted that education is the only heritage a parents can give to his children. My son is only ten months and I have been thinking what school we are going to send him when he goes to college. I know it’s very early for us to think about this perhaps what I should be thinking now is what play school should we send him or what primary school should he attend to?
Well, there’s nothing wrong of being too advance especially if it concern your child’s future. Thinking of my son’s college education as early as today will give us ample of time, preparing and especially saving for it. As a mom, of course I would want him to attend the best college or university in our country; we prefer schools like Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines and University of Santo Thomas. These are top notched schools which offer quality education and not to mention expensive tuition fees. Today it is very expensive sending your child in those schools and I can’t imagine the cost of tuition fees ten years from now. That is why it is very important to start saving for his college plan as early as today. It may not give us financial freedom but it will give us less financial pressure since we have ample time to save for it plus it will give us an assurance that we can send him to college. This will definitely give us peace of mind.
As for the course he would take, I would give it up to him. I will let him choose what course he wants to take when he goes to college. Of course that would be base on his talent and ability.
So, if you have not yet consider saving for your child’s college education, you better think about it and start saving now for your child’s future.
We don’t have to wait till our baby goes to school to teach him how to read. The best and easiest time to teach our babies to read is during infant and toddler years. At this stage, thousand of synapses are created in our infant’s brain which allows our child to learn the spoken and written words simultaneously.
At ten months, I’m starting to expose my child to reading. This might be too early but to others this might be a little late. Anyways, I started buying alphabet and number books when he was eight months and continuously exposing teaching him the alphabet and numbers but he doesn’t show interest over it. A friend recommended “your baby can read” cd which is ideal to infants as early as four months. I get interested and gladly we were able to buy starter copy for our little one. Upon research, I found out that the CD is an award winning, multi-sensory early language development system. According to Robert Titzer, the developer of “your baby can read” the current practice of starting to teach reading in school is too late. When children develop reading skills during their natural window of opportunity, from about birth to age four, they read better and are more likely to enjoy it. He is right, for me, gone are the days of old passion ways of teaching your child to read. Today’s advancement of technology says it all.
It’s great that he is paying attention and really shows interest. Looks like he is entertained. We really hope he can read at an early age.
What can you get from the CD?
It comes in 5 CD. The Starter Video, Volume 1 to 3 and review CD. It is recommended that you let your baby watch the CD once or twice a day. Start with the starter video for 1 month. Then volume 1 for 2 months, volume 2 for 2 months, volume 3 for 1 month and review for 1 month. This is fun and interactive way of learning for your baby that he will surely enjoy.
Reasons why teaching your baby early reading is beneficial:
1. Reading is an important skill
2. Easier to learn
3. Helps children in other development
4. Baby brain develops faster
5. Possible more efficient
6. Helps eliminates problem
7. Early readers stay ahead
A Blessed Sunday Everyone! Today’s scripture is from Leviticus 6:9
“Command Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering shall be on the hearth upon the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it.
In ancient Israel, the priests were instructed to ensure that the fire from the altar of burnt offering where daily sacrifices of animals that such as lamb, bulls, goats, turtledoves or pigeons are being offered in order the fire from the altar to keep burning. This ritual pleases God reason that He affirms it by His presence in a form of a pillar of fire by night and pillar of cloud by day, symbolizing the continual burning love and passion between God and man. Thus should the fire of our holy affections, the exercise of our faith and love, of prayer and praise, be without ceasing.
Our Love for Jesus is the greatest fuel to keep our burning relationship with Him. So lets keep that fire burning in our hearts.
I am sending 10 postcards to blogger friends. Few of them are postcards collector so I guess they would love to receive post card from Kuala Lumpur (though some of them might have one already). I’ve been planning about this for quite a while, and finally I’m glad that I am doing this thing now. Thanks to hubby for doing the very first move; he bought those cards at the central market.
If you wanna get hold one of those postcards, just send me your address through a private message in my facebook account. I am hoping to send them all early next week.
