Puerto Princesa Underground River Landed a Spot in The New 7 Wonders

Here is something we should be proud of again as a Filipino Citizen. Today, Bernard Weber, the President of the New 7 Wonders of Nature had confirmed and officially announced the inclusion of the Philippines’s pride, the Puerto Princesa Underground River to the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Hundreds of people has been captivated by the natural beauty of the underground river that even the President of the New 7 Wonders was struck. Last year, millions of Filipino voted for the underground river to be in the list of the New 7 Wonders. And perhaps some foreigners who were struck by the beauty of the underground river had also voted.

Now, the 17 kilometer underground river is officially one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.  Along with Underground River who grabbed a spot on the prestigious list are Amazon, Jeju Island, Halong Bay, Iguazo Falls, Komodo, and Table Mountain. Truly it is more fun in the Philippines!

The Search for Proper Lighting

We have move in to our new house few months ago even if it’s not yet fully furnished due to lack of budget. But once we have the budget ready, I am sure we will be able to buy all the stuff that we need in the new house. Meanwhile, I have yet to figure out the proper lighting for our living and dining areas. As of the moment we are only using a tubular fluorescent bulb for those areas. And to enhance the ambiance and design of the areas, perhaps a modern chandelier will look best in our living area and pendant lighting will suit our dining area. What do you think?

I still need to sit down and draft the design or at least browse the net for the latest and modern lighting design from different sites. Also, I’m gonna visit framburg lighting and thomas lighting which was recommended by a friend who just complete a residential project last year. I hope it will help me choose the right lighting for our crib.

I am currently pre-occupied with some things, but I am hoping to accomplish this matter before February comes. Crossing my fingers. So help me God!

Philippine EPI Vaccines

Hubby and I have been monitoring our baby’s immunization and I am glad that he is done with the EPI or Expanded Program of Immunization.

What is EPI or Expanded Program of Immunization?
EPI is a standard vaccine schedule created by the World Health Organization with an objective to make vaccine available to all children all over the world. In the Philippines, the EPI began last July 1979 with the following vaccines:

BCG. This vaccine should be given at the earliest possible age ideally during the first two months of the baby. BCG or Bacillus Calmette-Guerin is a vaccine against tuberculosis.

Measles. Measles vaccine is given at nine months of age but could be given as early as six months of age incase of measles outbreaks.

Hepatitis B. Given in three doses. The first dose is given within the first 12 hours of life. Doses should be given atleast 4 weeks intervals. A fourth dose is needed if the third dose is given at six months, if no dose is given using EPI schedule of 6, 10 and 14 weeks. Preterms baby less than 2kg initial dose should not be counted in the 3 dose immunization schedule.

DTwP Vaccine. A vaccine consisting of Diphtheria Toxoid, Tetanus Toxoid, and whole-cell Pertussis vaccine . The vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough and is usually combine with Hib vaccine and will protect Hib disease. It is given during 6 to 24 weeks of age.

IPV Vaccine. Inactive Polio Vaccine is given to children if four doses. First dose should be at two months, second dose at four months, third dose at sixth to eighteen months and a booster dose at four to six years old.

Protect your child from diseases, ensure that he has all those vaccine. It is a bit pricey if you have it in a private hospital but if you have the budget, then go for it. Public Hospitals and health centers offer those vaccines for free.

Get rid of ants the natural way

For almost a week now, I am devastated with dread ants inside our house. With a toddler at home who has sensitive skin, I get paranoid everytime a see those horrific ants crawling in the kitchen, dining, door jamb and even inside our room.  Grrrhhh…I’ve been hunting them but I can’t find where their queen hides. Spraying insect repellent helps for a while, then you will see them again coming. Most insect repellent are not healthy, good thing I was introduce by a friend to an organic insect repellent which I’ve been using to get rid of the dread ants. And just before the organic repellent gets empty, I discover a natural way of getting rid of ants.

Yes, you heard it right; you can get rid of ants naturally. If you’re like me, who only knows pouring hot water as a natural way of killing ants, good news is you can use lemon juice as a healthy and natural way of getting rid of ants. It is surprising that lemon juice can effectively kill those horrific tiny crawling creature inside your home. Just mix a mixture of water and lemon juice of the same amount and spray it wherever you see there is an ant. You gotta have to try it for you to believe. I’ve have tried it and its effective. Happy cleaning!

Should I stop lifting my toddler while pregnant?

Watching the little one grow up day by day is fun. Nothing beats the happiness that he brought to our home. I’m loving the motherhood experience, in fact I will be a mom for the second time. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant to our second prince.

This second pregnancy is a lot different from my first. It made it more different having a toddler while pregnant. Though we have a maid who looks after him, I still take time to take care of him, joining him in his play and sleep time and even his bath time. One thing that I find hard right now is when he asks me to lift him for a cuddle. At this point, I feel uncomfortable lifting him but it is sometime inevitable.

Should I stop lifting my toddler at this stage of my pregnancy? Sometimes I experience back pain and discomfort on my lower abdomen while carrying him. According to my pregnancy daily guide book by Dr. Maggie Blott, lifting my toddler will not harm the baby inside my womb however this may cause discomfort to me as my ligaments soften due to hormonal change. This means that pregnant women are more likely prone to injury as our joints are less stable than usual.

The best thing to do is to encourage the toddler to sit down on your lap for a cuddle instead of lifting him. If you can’t avoid lifting him, try lifting him from the floor level with a squat position and use your leg to bear the weight. Remember to avoid bending as this may strain our back. Also, take extra care as you are prone to imbalance every time you lift him.

The Little One Shopping

After attending the church service yesterday, we drop by the super market to buy some groceries.

The little one at Church

Normally, we let the little one ride the cart while shopping.

Baby Z onboard the cart

But yesterday, we let him walk freely at the supermarket and look how excited he was upon entering the supermarket. He immediately grabbed his favorites, banana, orange and apple. He even dropped some of them in the floor.

And just when we stopped him from grabbing the fruits, he saw this.

and that…

Perhaps he enjoyed the shopping, and maybe next time he’ll grab more goods for him. LoL! That was really fun baby!

Affodable High Quality Eyeglasses

I remember when I bought eyeglasses worth $250; it was really a pain in my pocket that I have to think a hundred times before going to the cashier counter and pay for it. The worst thing was, I only use it for less than six months. Why? Unfortunately, I left the luxurious glasses in a boutique’s fitting room while shopping and when I went back to the boutique my expensive glasses was gone. I had to blame my memory gap for losing my dear pricey eyeglasses. It was like wasting $250.

That taught me a lesson. Eyeglass need not to be expensive at all and should not break your pocket. I don’t want to wear contact lens and so I went to buy another eyeglass to help me in my reading. This time I had to look for a low price glasses but with quality eyeglasses frames and lens as I don’t want to spend lot of money for my eyeglass again.

When buying eyeglasses, you should be meticulous when choosing the right glasses for you especially if you are in a tight budget, in order for you to be able to get the right and quality eye wear that will serve your eyes for a long period of time.

The good news is you can actually find low price but at the same time high quality eyeglasses online. Isn’t it convenient? GlassesUSA.com offers low price high quality frames and lenses. How to Wean your Baby from Pacifier

Pacifier soothes my baby whenever he is fussy and he can sleep easily with his binky on. One benefit from using pacifier is it reduces the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). But too much use of pacifier can lead to middle ear infection.

The little one has been attached with his binky and now that he turned 1 year old, I planning to slowly wean him from pacifier. Being a first time mom, I am totally blank on how to start it. So I made a research and I would like to share it here for the benefit of first time moms like me.

  1. Make it taste unpleasant. This perfectly works in weaning your baby from pacifier as they would definitely refuse anything that taste unpleasant.
  2. Take it away early. If you let him attached with his binky for a long time, eventually it will become his bestfriend.
  3. Give it to Binky fairy. Give it away or trade it with something. Binky fairy is the cousin of tooth fairy who might help your child leave pacifier.
  4. Lose it. Lose the pacifier purposely and when he looks for it tell him it’s gone.
  5. Simply say No. Be firm with your decision. It’s okay to let him cry over it. Then he will get use to it, and gradually he will forget his binky.

Hopefully the above tips will help me successfully wean my son from pacifier as early as possible.
