Last week I heard an eleven years old boy playing ukulele over my favorite radio station. He sounds very good considering his age. When asked why he chose ukulele, he answered because it has only four strings which made it easier to play than a guitar. So, that’s the difference between these two identical musical instruments aside from it’s size. I wonder if you can also use slides on ukulele. I like the expressive vibrato effect on guitar.
From the boy’s perspective looks like ukulele is kid friendly perhaps of its size. But I never thought of ukulele for my boys. I wanted them to start with guitar because that’s the first musical instrument they get exposed to. But I will give them freedom to choose which musical instrument they want to learn.
How about your kids? Are you exposing them to musical instruments? Would you let them chose between guitar and ukulele?
