Into Calligraphy

Recently, I’ve been seeing pretty letters made and posted by friends on social media. I admired them for their God given talent, and I was inspired and stirred to practice (again) my lettering skills I used to have way back high school years. And so, I gotten into this new journey that was close to my heart not so long ago – Calligraphy – the art or making pretty letters.

There are variety of calligraphy materials and I wanted to start with brush calligraphy using brush pens. Living in Dubai, I didn’t know that it was a challenging looking for brush pens. I wanted to get hold of kuretake zig brush pens but it’s not available here. Instead I got a faber castell 6 pitt brush pen, I got from Kinukuniya in Dubai Mall. Before I got hold of this, I visited several small stationery shop near my area, but it’s not available. I searched online and found out that kinukuniya carry calligraphy materials. They have Koi, Copic & Faber Castell brush pens. Sadly copic black brush pens was out of stock so I went home with colored brush pens from faber castell. Kinukuniya is located in level 2, Dubai Mall.

I’ve seen a fellow homeschooling family done this, and I thought that this would be a fun art activity for my children. So we finally did. Sharing how we had fun with marble painting.

The kids were introduced to primary colors, so we used red, blue & yellow poster colors and placed it in a small plastic cup. You will also need white construction or oslo paper, a tray and marbles. These are the materials you will be needing in this activity.

Once your materials are ready, then the fun begins. Place the oslo paper on the tray. Dip the marble on the colored cups, make sure to fully cover the marble with colors. Then place it on the tray where the white oslo paper is. And then roll the marbles!

It’s a bit messy, but surely a fun activity for kids. And the result? A lovely abstract painting!

Important things to consider when building a home playground

Children often seem to have boundless energy, and a home swingset can be a great way to let them play in their own yard. Swingsets can provide children with a variety of activities, and it is an excellent investment to help them stay occupied, especially in the summer months. If you are considering building a little home playground for your kids, here are some things to consider when it comes to safety and durability.

Swingset Materials

Swingsets can be built out of a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic. The materials you choose will have a direct impact on how long your swingset will last. While metal and plastic are cheaper options, these playsets will not last as long. Metal will rust quickly in the outdoor environment, while plastic can crack under certain weights. For the highest durability, cedar swingsets, such as those offered at Play N’ Learn, are the best option. Wood is the sturdiest material available, and cedar is known for its ability to stand up to the elements outside. Cedar is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insect damage.

Ground Surfaces

A swingset can be placed on any flat area in your area, but the surface it is on could effect the safety of your playground. Hard dirt may not be the best choice for swingsets that include slides, swings, monkey bars, climbing walls, and other elevated activities. This is because this surfaces if not very forgiving should your child fall. The best option for safety would be some type of rubberized mulch, which will cushion falls and help prevent scrapes and bruises. A mulched area will also help to keep the play area clean, meaning upkeep will be easier in the long run.

Swingset Accessories

Swingsets can have many different options, from swings to climbing walls. Keep a child’s age in mind when choosing options for your playground. Small children may not be able to use monkey bars or climbing walls safely, but they can always be added later. When choosing certain options for a swingset, make sure to consider safety features too. Monkey bars should be easy to grip, and slides should be made of material that does not get too hot in the sun.

Swingsets are a great way to give your children a fun home activity. When you choose a home playground that pairs fun accessories with safety features and durability, you’ll have a great playplace for your children for years to come.
